cih Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) The optical drives in Macs are the achilles heel, I have a 2 year old Mac Mini and the only disc it will still read is the installation disc that came with it. Interesting. I wonder whether that factored into their decision to drop optical drives from the most recent iMacs. Most 'hardcore' Mac users (I'm informed by a man in a shop) tended to buy external drives anyway, so the built-ins were kind of redundant.. also, it might be related that Adobe will be phasing out boxed editions of its software later this year, so that all their creative software is available as downloads only (to be payed for by monthly subscription). Christiern Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 Yeah, my iMac came with Lion. I still haven't upgraded to Mountain Lion yet. Have never been convinced I needed it. Thanks for the info, though. My Mountain Lion ate my Lion—and my iMac smiled. I bought an external drive only because I wanted the LightScribe feature, but I'm glad I did, because the built-in drive sometimes misbehaves. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 Chris, can you expand on how Mountain Lion ate Lion? Not a huge deal, mind you. It would just help convince me... Quote
mjzee Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 In my experience with upgrading, a lot depends on the age of your machine. I have a mid-2007 iMac, which is the earliest possible machine for a Mountain Lion upgrade. While I like ML, I've found my machine acting a lot more sluggishly than before: programs and web pages take much longer to load. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 My iMac is only about a year and a half old. I'm an old school Wind'ohs user who just recently woke up. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted March 29, 2013 Author Report Posted March 29, 2013 I am still not getting this to work. The second file the audio is off by 2 seconds from the video. Anyone here know of a freeware product that I could use to convert to MP4 or another MAC format? Quote
erwbol Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) MP4 Tools I use it to convert .mkv files to something playable on my PS3. After creating a playable file you can also use the program to split it into smaller chunks. Edited March 29, 2013 by erwbol Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted March 29, 2013 Author Report Posted March 29, 2013 Are you using Dropbox? Yes, that works. It's getting the files to play on the MAC that is the issue. MP4 Tools I use it to convert .mkv files to something playable on my PS3. After creating a playable file you can also use the program to split it into smaller chunks. I'll try this. Thanks. Quote

erwbol Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) Sorry, I forgot you are on a PC. Edited March 30, 2013 by erwbol Quote
