Tom 1960 Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 I've heard a few tracks off this album while listening to WBGO recently. Sounds pretty good. Anyone here own this and willing to offer up a few thoughts? Quote
marcello Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 Yes, I have it and like it a lot. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 I also have this George Cable CD and share Marcello's opinion. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted March 1, 2013 Author Report Posted March 1, 2013 An October audio review from NPR. http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=163712216&m=163712366 Quote
fasstrack Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 Anyone know anything about Cables' health? He was supposed to have had a multiple organ transplant not long ago. And he looks a bit frail in the picture. Hope he's OK. Quote
John Tapscott Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 I have it and agree with all the positive opinions expressed above. It's a very fine CD. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 I pick a copy up Wednesday at the Dexter Gordon tribute. I haven't listened yet, and after hear the two comments giving praise, I will have get around to listening to this real soon. Quote
ValerieB Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 Anyone know anything about Cables' health? He was supposed to have had a multiple organ transplant not long ago. And he looks a bit frail in the picture. Hope he's OK. as far as i know, he's in amazingly good shape these days. he's working quite a bit in and outside of the USA. he was the musical director for a tribute to Dexter Gordon the other night at Dizzy's. i enjoyed it very much via the webcast from JALC. mr jazz Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 he was in fine form with the Cookers last year. His cd looks like a winner-thanks for the headsup! Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 He looked frail, but with it, on local TV here recently. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted March 2, 2013 Author Report Posted March 2, 2013 Glad to come across so many positive responses on his latest release. Sounds like a no brainer. Quote
fasstrack Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 A talented man for sure. I used to hear him at Bradley's and enjoyed his recordings through the years. Did he really have a multiple organ transplant? Jeez, what a rough road back from that it must be. Quote
ValerieB Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 A talented man for sure. I used to hear him at Bradley's and enjoyed his recordings through the years. Did he really have a multiple organ transplant? Jeez, what a rough road back from that it must be. you have no idea what an under-statement that is, Fasstrack. i believe there were at least two different surgeries and then infections, rejections, complications, etc. it's a miracle that he is still with us and playing/writing!! and the great irony is that the person who was with him throughout his heavy-duty medical problems, the "love of his life" for many decades, is now gone. and, of course, he was by her side as much as was possible during her battle. and, as many of you probably know, Helen was/is his "Muse". and she was an extraordinary person, as George is. fasstrack Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 No argument there. Quite a story too. I'm sure the music on this one is deeply felt. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted March 14, 2013 Author Report Posted March 14, 2013 My copy arrived in the mail today. A real nice album worthy of purchase. Quote
