skeith Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 (edited) I have not purchased an OJC cd in a while, but did so yesterday to replace a damaged "The Kicker" by Joe Henderson. I was surprised after opening the jewel box to see the disc.... rather than the usual dark yellow printed on a mirror-like background... I was surprised to see a rather cheap looking gaudy bright yellow printed on a white background....looking much like a cdr. To be clear... I am talking about the disc, not the booklet. I bought this in the store at J&R.... but it looked fake.... is that what OJCs look like now? Edited February 27, 2013 by skeith Quote
jeffcrom Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 (edited) Yes, unfortunately. The last few Concord-formerly-Fantasy CDs I bought had that kind of label, and one (a Sonny Terry OBC) was actually a CDr. Edited February 27, 2013 by jeffcrom Quote
Quincy Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 (edited) Hmm....I have The Kicker as part of the box set and it has its own special look. Here's a link to how the individual The Kicker used to look. http://jazzalbumcove...-1967-1990.html Edited February 27, 2013 by Quincy Quote
skeith Posted February 27, 2013 Author Report Posted February 27, 2013 thanks guys... wow that is really unfortunate... the look is very cheap. Quote
romualdo Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 Last year I bought a Benny Bailey Candid CD (Import CDs) - unfortunately it was a CDr & the slick was a cheap repro (photocopy?) I emailed Candid but never got a reply I've purchased a few more Candids since then & they have been the real deal Quote
mikeweil Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 (edited) I recieved one of those bright yellow CDs two weeks ago, but it doesn't look like a CDR to me. Probably just a different printing process. The problem is less the yellow but the white replacing the silver part of the CD label - that's what makes it looks cheaper.
