Gheorghe Posted October 12, 2020 Report Posted October 12, 2020 Max Roach quintet on side A and Sonny Rollins trio on side B. This was in Graz in the 60´s. Since there have been releases from ORF tapes for both Jimmy Guiffree trio in Graz 1961 and John Coltrane also in Graz 1961 on HatHut, maybe in future we could get this one on CD. Like the Coltrane material , it was former released on diverse bootleg labels..... Quote

JSngry Posted October 15, 2020 Report Posted October 15, 2020 I have that LP, and I don't recall it containing the now-legendary Freddie Hubbard "meltdown". Was it edited out, or what? Quote
JSngry Posted October 24, 2020 Report Posted October 24, 2020 Have any of the Hugh Masakela MGM/Uni LPs made it to CD? Quote

Rabshakeh Posted October 25, 2020 Report Posted October 25, 2020 Thanks! Not suitable for family listening I guess. Quote
Daniel A Posted October 31, 2020 Report Posted October 31, 2020 (edited) Since the Impulse masters apparently are now lost, I suppose we might never see proper reissues of remaining titles from that label. I have not heard most of these, which I don't believe have been on CD: Chico Hamilton 'Passin' Thru' (1963) (correction: on CD as part of a twofer) Chico Hamilton 'Chic Chic Chico' (1965) Chico Hamilton 'El Chico' (1965) (correction: on CD as part of a twofer) Shirley Scott 'For Members Only' (1964) (correction: on CD as part of a twofer) Shirley Scott 'Great Scott' (1964) (correction: on CD as part of a twofer) Yusef Lateef 'Jazz' Round the World' (1964) The Russian Jazz Quartet (1965) Dannie Richmond '"In" Jazz for the Culture Set' (1965) Chico O'Farrill 'Nine Flags' (1966) (Edit: Thanks, Niko! I forgot about that twofer reissue series...) Edited October 31, 2020 by Daniel A Quote
Niko Posted October 31, 2020 Report Posted October 31, 2020 (edited) Two of those Chico Hamilton LPs have been reissued in that Impulse 2 on 1 series, one of the last great CD reissue series... But otherwise you're of course right... edit: and the Shirley Scott albums, too https://www.discogs.com/label/292976-Impulse!-2-On-1 Edited October 31, 2020 by Niko Quote
Daniel A Posted October 31, 2020 Report Posted October 31, 2020 This one is nice and has a welcome sideman appearance from Joe Farrell: Quote
mikeweil Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 This Impulse LP maybe another victim of the tape loss of the label. Melvin REhyne is on half ogf the tracks. Quote
Deadman Posted November 1, 2020 Report Posted November 1, 2020 A very moody, serene and underrated ECM guitar lp "Wintereisse" by Hajo Weber & Ulrich Ingenbold never made it to cd. Quote
hopkins Posted January 10, 2021 Report Posted January 10, 2021 (edited) A very nice album never issued on CD. https://www.discogs.com/Lloyd-Phillips-Lloyds-Moods/release/904777 Edited January 10, 2021 by hopkins Quote
Daniel A Posted February 6, 2021 Report Posted February 6, 2021 Speaking of Jerome Richardson (in another thread), this pairing of him and Frank Wess is very enjoyable. It has the classic rhythm section of several other Savoy sessions. Should definitely be in the flute recommendations thread as well. Quote
mikeweil Posted February 7, 2021 Report Posted February 7, 2021 (edited) Strange that this never was on CD. Even the SJL series did not include this. It was included on two cheapo multi-album boxes on AVID and Enlightenment that focus either on Wess or Richardson. Different cover: Edited February 7, 2021 by mikeweil Quote
Rabshakeh Posted February 7, 2021 Report Posted February 7, 2021 It looks like an interesting one, although I've never been all that into Frank Wess' playing. Quote
Daniel A Posted February 7, 2021 Report Posted February 7, 2021 (edited) Here's one track from the album, not necessarily the best but pleasant enough : (BTW, the album's in mono ) Edited February 7, 2021 by Daniel A Quote
