Peter Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 From JazzMessengers. An unsual sideman for Evans. Quote
Larry Kart Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Info in previous post (about a Bill Evans album with Tony Oxley) deleted. Again -- forum rules prohibit linking to bootlegs, and that's what this album is. Quote
JSngry Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 Is a YouTube video ok? No links to product involved. I don't hear Oxley making much difference one way or the other, to be honest, although Evans sounds a little less rushed than usual. Quote
John L Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 According to Oxley, the gig was not very successful. There was a problem with the sound system, and he couldn't even hear what Evans was playing most of the night. He just locked into Gomez and hoped for the best. Enja released the Nardis from this concert on a compilation disc called Live at the Festival. It sounds pretty nice. Quote

paul secor Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 I have the Enja record but haven't listened to it in a while. The Evans track never made much of an impression on me - as a matter of fact, I'd forgotten that Tony Oxley played on it. I'll have to listen again. Oxley must be one of the few people who recorded with both Bill Evans and Cecil. I can think of Chuck Israels, plus Trane and Max on two separate George Russell big big band dates. No one else comes to mind. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 I remember the Evans track from Live at the Festival being super odd, and pretty well dominated by Oxley's playing (which I like). This YouTube video sounds pretty rough. I probably don't need the disc. Quote
