The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 With one week to go, I've started playing Christmas records: Lowell Fulson - Lonesome Christmas pts 1 & 2 - Swingtime (Hollywood) Rev Cleophus Robinson - Christmas carols & good gospel - Peacock Don Patterson - Holiday soul - Prestige Al Grey - Christmas stocking stuffer - Capri (with a couple of fun vocals from Jon Hendricks) Jimmy Smiff - Christmas '64 - Verve now Jimmy McGriff - Christmas with Jimmy McGriff - Sue MG Quote
colinmce Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Hm, that Don Patterson looks nice. I will admit this: I do not go classy when it comes to the Christmas tunes. At all. In my mind, all bets are off as far as the cheese is concerned. The Bing Crosby is a favorite, of course. But, um, that's about as nice as it gets. I have a soft spot for Christmas muzak, so we listen to a lot of cheapo synthesizer stuff, and some generic choral/orchestral things. Also, Mannheim Steamroller and ... yes, OK, Kenny G's Miracles. What can I say, the man has a nice tone ... Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 18, 2012 Author Report Posted December 18, 2012 Youssou N'dour - Special Noel - Saprom Strange that there's no image of this K7 on the web... MG Quote
Matthew Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Henry Mancini: Merry Mancini Christmas. I really enjoy the "Easy Listening" style of Christmas albums the most, they always sound romantic, and nostalgic, and wintery, and classy. Quote

Milestones Posted December 24, 2012 Report Posted December 24, 2012 I have long enjoyed this one. It came out in the early or mid-80's. It's somewhat similar to George Winston's December, though I find Owen's record much more enjoyable. Not an easy record to find....for some odd reason. Quote
Milestones Posted December 24, 2012 Report Posted December 24, 2012 Taking this in a different direction--who would you want to hear do a jazz album? It seems that just about everyone has does one, but that's not true--especially for jazz artists. Two that come to mind: Keith JarrettBill Frisell Quote
GA Russell Posted December 24, 2012 Report Posted December 24, 2012 I've been enjoying Chris Isaak's album Christmas which I got this year. Quote
