GA Russell
It's that time of year again to reflect on the past twelve months, and consider what ten albums you've picked up are your favorites. This year there really hasn't been a great deal of discussion on the board about new releases, so let's open it up to CDs you have purchased (or were given) in the past twelve months regardless of when they were recorded or released. I've still got a couple of promos I want to listen to before deciding on my list, so go ahead and start without me!

king ubu
Oh yes, the Rivers! Just got it last week, finally (it was around before that, of course) - it's great! Last year, Rivers just arrived in time to make the best of the year lists with his amazing Mosaic Select ... and then he died. Darn!

A Lark Ascending
This stands out as the new jazz recording I got most pleasure from this year: Enjoyed lots of things but most are still being absorbed. I'd select these as having been especially enjoyable: Abercrombie John - Within A Song Iles Nikki Trio - Hush Johnson Marc - Swept Away McGarry Kate - Girl Talk Neon Quartet - Subjekt Surman John - Saltash Bells Tobin Christine - Sailing to Byzantium Truedell Ryan - Centennial Alexander Hawkins - All There, Ever Out (late entry - thought this came out last year). BillF
John Tapscott's Gene Quill, The Tiger and Greg Abate, Horace Is Here were near misses, too. I forgot about the excellent O'Higgins/Alexander disc, but could/should have included it, too. I keep meaning to buy their first album, Sketch Book. Motivation for so doing has been weakened by the fact that I have most of its tracks on a compilation disc put together and given me by British tenorman Simon Spillett. Solved that problem by buying the three remaining tracks as downloads - and, of course, they're right up to the standard of the others. Great to have more of this lovely music!
