Needless to say that I am a big fan of Bud. Carl Smith wrote a wonderful book about all of Bud´s recordings. I got almost everything Bud recorded, so it was a fantastic experience to read his book. I also like the way how he described Bud´s later work.

Carl just forwarded me the below email he received. Anyone know about this Bud material, which was located in an Oscar Pettiford online discography? Thanks in advance.

Hi Carl,

I found this information about Bud Powell recordings on an Oscar Pettiford site,I did not see these dates in the claude schlouch discography. Do you have these recordings ?

590509 24:00 Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, NL. "Jazz for the DSC" (DSC = Dutch Swing College Band, which also performed). The other participants (collectively listed): Lucky Thompson, Stan Getz, Bud Powell, Pim Jacobs (a Dutch pianist), Oscar Pettiford, Ruud Jacobs (a Dutch bassist), Kenny Clarke, Wally Bishop (American drummer, long time resident in the Netherlands).

Salt Peanuts

Willow Weep For Me (unaccompanied bass solo)

52nd Street Theme

OP got raving reviews. Cf. (Francis Thorne).

Bud Powell Trio. Bud Powell p, Oscar Pettiford or Pierre Michelot* b, Kenny Clarke d. As announced in Jazz Hot 152. March 1960. It is certain that Michelot is the bassist on 600312; it is also certain that OP plays on 600320 (Berlin; cf. 600320 OP Trio); it is not certain that OP plays on other dates.

600307 Nizza

600308 Marseille

600312 Paris* I have this one.

600315 Lyon

600317 Basel

600318 Zürich

600319 Lausanne

600320 Berlin

The may 9, 1959 gives a recording time of 24 minutes, but the other listing may only be tunes he played but we don't know if a tape exist. Let me know what you think.
