Hardbopjazz Posted December 10, 2012 Report Posted December 10, 2012 (edited) Hopefully no more will be added to this list, but we did have some losses in jazz this year. The last two that I am aware of that left this world. Dave Brubeck Pete La Roca Sims Edited December 10, 2012 by Hardbopjazz Quote

Lazaro Vega Posted December 11, 2012 Report Posted December 11, 2012 Faruq Z. Bey. Some hard core post-Coltrane Motown spiritual music went down in his honor at Kerrytown Concert House in October during Edge Fest. Blew away several of the young New Yorkers in the audience, Andrew Drury, Taylor Ho Bynum, who had no idea. Authentic Detroit lay out. Anthony Holland's post-Roscoe lyricism; David McMurray's forgedeaboutit sonic flights; Jaribu Shahid, basses and calling the rehearsals, cracking; and a drummer who did a great job deputizing for Tani Tabbal. I didn't know much about Carl other than his performance on Freddie Hubbard's "Gleam", but I enjoyed his contribution to that recording. Who else did he play with? Quote
