The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 This one is surprising. "NEAR YOU" Francis Craig And His Orchestra (Francis Craig & Kermit Goell) Bullet (1947) Pop (Single) because it was the first massive pop hit on an indie label (17 weeks at #1). If ever there was a milestone record, it was that one. MG Quote

Christiern Posted December 7, 2012 Report Posted December 7, 2012 A Grammy—like most trophies awarded for commercial success—might do the recipient some good if he/she immediately cashes in on it via promotion. Otherwise, it very quickly becomes just another nicknack to dust off and polish. It's all about an annual TV show that, sad to say, glorifies mediocrity and takes American music closer to the gutter with each year. Who among us thinks otherwise? Quote

It is, indeed, all that; but, that's not all that it is... Quote
Christiern Posted December 7, 2012 Report Posted December 7, 2012 No, there's more. I should have mentioned the NARAS charity efforts, but does that make up for the Academy's promotion of inferior artists and composers at the expense of talent that deserves to be recognized and rewarded? I don't think so. Quote
