right in my wheelhouse for this sort of stuff. Some quieter portions but no limits on wildness while still having a measured approach with restraint which gives much of this ultra abstract improvised music such power and tensile qualities. Martin Kuchen adapts well to this type of music and anything I’ve heard with Burkhard Beins has been worth hearing.

the former is a bit more typical free jazz like - the inclusion of the great Rafal Mazur takes it to a high level. Kuchen is great as always.

There is a new solo Barre Phillips album, "Thirty Years in Between" on Victo: https://www.discogs.com/Barre-Phillips-Thirty-Years-In-Between/release/15560544 . It's released as a twofer with the long OOP solo release from 1989, "Camouflage" (which might be my favorite solo bass record).

Not sure if this is the correct thread for this, but I've fallen pretty hard for Pourtant Les Cimes Des Arbres by Daunik Lazro, Benjamin Duboc and Didier Lasserre recently.

The mixture of emotional lyricism with free improv musical austerity is hitting all the buttons. Plus, Lazro's baritone playing is fantastic. It has an emotional intensity that this sort of music sometimes lacks. 

If anyone knows the album and has any recommendations in a similar vein or with similar players, I'd be grateful to hear them.

I would second the recommendation for Garden(s). Also worth looking out for Lazro's duos with Joe McPhee (Elan Impulse on In Situ) and Joelle Leandre (Hasparren on NoBusiness), both excellent.

Second listen to the both of these. As good as this sort of thing gets, IMO

I probably prefer the trio set due to Mazur. Plus if I have to hear anyone play the sopranino saxophone it would have to be Kuchen. I’m usually not as attuned today the higher pitched saxes as some might be but his excursions on this horn are very exciting to my ears. He only plays sopranino on the trio release. Alto & tenor on the release with quartet (or trio plus if you will)

FYI Dusty Groove has started stocking Not Two releases. They currently have the Barry Guy Odes & Meditations box and the Not Two But Twenty box for very nice prices. The former has been very hard to get in the US.

Sorry to resurrect and old post. I've been listening to Kang's Tokebi which he did with Kim Seok Chul in the early nineties. I've seen him referred to in hushed tones as a major figure on the Korean scene, but I've never actually seen any disk of his other than Tokebi being put forward. Does anyone know of any of other records that he put out that they would recommend? If nothing else it would help to vary my current Daunik splurge.

Here are my recommendations for Kang Tae Hwan. I stick to available recordings (not very much is readily available). I have all his albums except two which I got as rips from a dear friend. His work with Takada goes back to the 1990s. There's a trio called Ton-Klami with him , Takada and Masahiko Satoh.
