jeffcrom Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 But after I posted above, I clicked on "View New Content" again, and this thread had disappeared from that list. Weird. Look at the left column on the screen, under "By time period." Change "Content I have not read" to "New since my last visit." Thanks - figured it out while you were posting. Quote
JSngry Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 No spell check? Crap. My spelling is ok, it's my typing that sucks. Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 Have to get used to the changes... were they really necessary? I'm with Brownie here. Will have to get used to it, but am unimpressed. Too busy, too gimmicky (those miniature avatars on the overview page do not serve any useful purpose IMO). Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 12, 2012 Author Report Posted November 12, 2012 The main reason for the upgrade was because the old version was no longer supported. Keeping on top of security updates is a must in this modern internet-fueled world. I was finally able to re-open the registration system with this new version. The old version had a backdoor hole that allowed spambots to bypass all the security checks and we were getting inundated with fake accounts. That alone is worth the price. Like anything else, when it's new it seems strange but after a week we'll all get used to it. Quote
papsrus Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 I like it! (he says, opening the cabinets and peering inside the dishwasher). May take a little while to get familiar with things, but that's fine. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 12, 2012 Author Report Posted November 12, 2012 BTW, most browsers these days have built-in spell checking (I know Google Chrome does, which is what I use), so that feature was removed due to redundancy. Quote
king ubu Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 So the subletitles are gone but we still don't get tags? Quite a change ... I still fondly remember the orange days, but I will get used to it this time, too! Quote

GA Russell Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 (edited) I posted to the CFL thread, but the thread did not appear when I clicked on View New Content, although the thread did move to the top of the Misc. Non-Political forum. Is there a glitch, or does the poster not see via View New Content when he has added to a thread? PS - Now I don't see this thread being at the top of the View New Content list either, so maybe that answers the question. Edited November 13, 2012 by GA Russell Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 13, 2012 Author Report Posted November 13, 2012 When you hit "View New Content" and the page loads, you'll see a menu on the left hand side. Whatever is highlighted in magenta is the option currently in use. It deafults to "Content I have not read yet". Since you made a new post, it assumes you've read it. Pick "Past month" or "Past year" and you'll get threads you've already seen as well as threads with unread replies. Quote
Aggie87 Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 Can we (at the individual level) remove the menu on the left? I don't need it as long as a "View New Content" button remains available, so really it just takes up space and makes the thread content have to fit in a smaller space. Quote
Indestructible! Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 One thing I regret is that when you check a page you are not directed to the last current post but to the top of the last page I'm getting this "problem" as well. I've tried switching from "Content I Have Not Read" and "New Since My Last Visit" in the "View New Content" link, but every time I click a page I am directed to the very first page/post of the thread. It's frustrating... I'm using and iPad 2, if that helps anything. Other than that I like the new look! Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 13, 2012 Author Report Posted November 13, 2012 If you want to see the most recent post, click on the icon (usually a star or circle) at the left of the topic title, not on the topic title itself. Quote

JohnJ Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 I like it but does anyone know if there is a way to view the board without seeing the avatars? (As was easy to do before the upgrade). Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 13, 2012 Author Report Posted November 13, 2012 Currently you can ignore signatures but not avatars. There is a third party plug that allows ignoring avatars. I'll look into it to see if it's safe / stable / etc. To ignore signatures, click on your name at the upper right top of the page, you'll see several options. Choose "Manage Ignore Prefs". You can globally ignore signatures by checking the box at the top "Ignore all signatures when reading topics" or you can choose individual member signatures to ignore. You can also ignore individual's posts, messages (private), or chats. Quote
Clunky Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 Hmmmm. must be doing something wrong, I never see any threads returned when clicking on New Content or last 24 hrs , last 1 week etc.?? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 13, 2012 Author Report Posted November 13, 2012 Here's a screen shot of how I have my View New Content page set. Notice the magenta highlights over on the left side. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 New look seems fine to me. A lot of white screen which seems to glare a bit - but I'll probably get used to it. Any chance of a coffee shop? Quote
mikeweil Posted November 13, 2012 Report Posted November 13, 2012 (edited) I am missing the two buttons "Today's active topics" and "Mark board as read" at the bottom of the front page ... otherwise, I'm fine. Edited November 13, 2012 by mikeweil Quote

mikeweil Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 The "Mark Community Read" button? Oh well .... thanks, Chuck. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 I hate it and miss the old layout. You know, just like I will next update... Quote
Matthew Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 Does anyone else have the problem of when they're writing a post, that when you touch some keys, or the backspace/delete button, strange things happen? Quote
