Sugimoto Taku - Myshkin Musicu (Slub music). Kind of an obscure one. Japanese minimal guitarist. I would love to find a copy of this cd. $160 offer. Thanks all!

FWIW, I actually enjoyed this disc, listening to the material on ubuweb. Normally I find lowercase stuff kind of off-putting, but this is so damn weird it's hard not to like it.

I never heard that term myself. But knowing what the music sounds like I made an educated guess (not much going on).

Yeah, that was my extrapolation as well, just wondering if there was some sort of "school" that used the term as a formal signifier or some such.

About a dozen years ago, I used to be on a forum

on which Steve Roden was involved (he coined the term "lowercase").

Lowercase grew in popularity (such as it is) by way of that forum and spread.

We did a few compilations. Some were directly lowercase

with ambient sound catches and another series of discs

involved arranged compositions using lowercase sound ideas.

I've probably heard some of this music and not realized that it was "called" that. No formal precepts, then, just an overall aesthetic? Makes perfect sense, actually, just never would have thought of music in terms of "lower case" myself.

Always something new to learn!
