thirdtry Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 Hi! Just wanted to mention that I'm selling a pretty rare CD on eBay that someone here might be interested in. The auction ends Sunday. It's THE LEGENDARY OSCAR DENNARD, a rare session from 1958. Here's the details: This session features Oscar Dennard (piano), Idrees Sulieman (trumpet), Jamil Nasser (bass) and Buster Smith (drums) and was recorded in July 1958. This Japan CD features 7 tracks and runs about an hour. Tracks: 1 - All Of You (6:51) 2 - Visa (11:21) 3 - Pinky (4:26) 4 - Stella By Starlight (12:24) 5 - Confirmation (9:55) 6 - Tour De Force (4:26) 7 - Tangier Blues (12:05) The CD and booklet are both in like-new condition! Pristine! http://www.ebay.com/itm/300800754479?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Thanks for looking! Quote
JSngry Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 Interesting...would you happen to know if this is previously unreleased material and/or what the original label was? Oscar Dennard and Idrees Sulieman...wow! Quote
thirdtry Posted October 24, 2012 Author Report Posted October 24, 2012 It's a beautiful quartet recording. I'm sure there are others here that know the history of the session better than I do. It's on the "Somethin' Else Classics" label and was recorded at the Radio Tangier International Studio. Michael Cuscuna is listed on the back cover as a "series director." The booklet (in English although there is also a Japanese insert) gives a rundown of how the session happened but no history of where else this session may have appeared (if anywhere). I think this might be one of those odd, little recording sessions that occurred and then slipped through the cracks. Quote
Stefan Wood Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 It is a fine session, which should be better known. Quote
mikeweil Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 That Somethin' Else CD is the only issue ever! Nice session, though not earth shattering, but a unique document. I'd never part with it. Quote

JSngry Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 So is eBay, as long as things don't get too crazy. But it's always good to have a Plan B. always! Quote
brownie Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 Previous thread on Oscar Dennard. Quote
