The Red Menace Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 I am searching for a good and useful book about my American singing heroes the Beach Boys, whose greatness is surpassed only by their mentors the Four Froshmen. Are there any such good books about this intriguing band??? Quote
AfricaBrass Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 I'm a big Beach Boys fan too. I know there are a couple books at least. Heroes and Villians - Stephen Gaines - I read this one years ago. Unfortunately the lives of these guys were pretty sad. It's a depressing read somewhat. The Nearest Faraway Place - Timothy White - I enjoyed this one more, but it doesn't focus entirely on the Beach Boys. It's subtitle is "Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys, and the Southern California Experience" if that helps describe it. I also remember Brian Wilsons autobiography. Unfortunately, it was written while under the influence of Dr. Landy. I don't really know what to believe in it. If these books are out of print. Here's a great search site for out of print books: http://www.isbn.nu Good luck! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 The Timothy White book is really interesting, as much as an insight into Californian social history as it is on the music of the BBs. Quote
