Chuck Nessa Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 HMV UK lists a new release of Von Freeman's Serenade and Blues. They currently have no details on the site, but I would like to know the source of the lps. Should you encounter one of these records, please look for anything indicating the origin of the product. J.A.W. Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 Chuck, I've just asked HMV UK who "reissued" the LP. I'll keep you posted. Quote
J.A.W. Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 (edited) Chuck, Sent you 2 e-mails. Edited February 5, 2004 by J.A.W. Quote
David Ayers Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 I don't know how you found that! Were you checking the HMV site just in case they had some rip-off Von Freemans? Well I am hoping that someone unearthed a stash of legitimate copies... I'm looking forward to hearing more about this - if it isn't a secret, that is... Quote
David Ayers Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Chuck, Sent you 2 e-mails. You're killing us. Spill the beans! Quote
J.A.W. Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Chuck, Sent you 2 e-mails. You're killing us. Spill the beans! Seriously, it's up to Chuck whether or not to spill any beans... Quote
J.A.W. Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 ...Though there aren't that many beans to spill... Quote
David Ayers Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 I'll settle for a single solitary bean. Quote
neveronfriday Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 I'll settle for a single solitary bean. Me too. Can't have that many gaseous consequences. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 6, 2004 Author Report Posted February 6, 2004 Sorry for the delay - I was in Chicago for Malachi's funeral. HMV says the source is Impetus Distribution. At one time Impetus was my distributor for England, but I had collection problems and they closed down and moved to Isle of Lewis. Looking through old paperwork I can find no shipments of the Freeman record to them, but I might have. It is possible they have some old stock to unload. Still a mystery for me. Quote
Simon Weil Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 (edited) I bought _People in Sorrow_ as a Nessa LP off Impetus years and years ago, before they moved. I think they were part of the (long-defunct) Impetus magazine (Jazz going into Avant anything music). On the basis of what they were, I do doubt they are rip-off artists. The whole vibe just seemed to have been "for the music". Anyway, this appears to be the contact info (from Ken Hyder's Discographical page): 10 High Street, Skigersta, Ness, Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, HS2 0TS, Scotland Tel 01851 810809 or 01279 430201 (Numbers for UK dialing, also 01851810808) Impetusrecs@aol.com If necessary, I can always try ringing them from the UK.
