JSngry Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Sorry to hear this..another one gone. RIP and thanks for doing it. Quote
sonnymax Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 I'm very sorry to hear of Ware's passing. I wasn't open to his music at first, but I took the time to open my ears and learned to really appreciate his art. I had the good fortune to see Ware perform a few times in NYC. I'll enjoy those memories and his recordings for many years to come. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 I just found out about this. Holy shit. RIP, and thanks for the music/life. Man. Quote
John L Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 I'm very sorry to hear this. I knew that he was sick, but somehow did not expect it at this time. Thank you for the music, Mr. Ware. RIP Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Very sad. RIP to a true artist. Great photo by our own Mark Sheldon: Quote
B. Goren. Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Sad news to start the day with. RIP Mr. Ware. Quote
JohnS Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Very sad news. He made a big impression on me playing with Andrew Cyrille at a London gig years ago. I've been interested in his playing since. I've not always enjoyed it but there was no doubt about his sincerity. Quote
romualdo Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 shocked!! - only in his early 60's though he did have a renal transplant a couple of years ago love his work but never got to see him RIP David S Quote

J.A.W. Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) Sad news. Way too young at 62. Edited October 19, 2012 by J.A.W. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) when the mortician gave me one last few minutes to be alone with my deceased wife the morning of her funeral, i asked to hear mr. ware's "the way we were." i can pay no higher tribute to any man. coincidentally, wnur is playing it right now. http://www.wnur.org/ Edited October 19, 2012 by alocispepraluger102 Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Submitted by Eric "The Wind" I... on Thu, 18 Oct 2012, 11:07pm begins Friday, October 19th at noon and will run until 6am on Saturday October 20th. We'll celebrate Ware's work on a variety of saxophones, and as composer and bandleader in a career spanning 40 years and many shades of jazz. The recordings feature David S Ware solo and his collaborations with Cecil Taylor, Andrew Cyrille, his classic quartet - Matthew Shipp, William Parker, Marc Edwards - and many others. Tune in to honor David S. Ware! Quote
king ubu Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 I never got around to dig his playing too much - but still, this is very sad news. Quote
colinmce Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 God, so sad. He was incredible. I'm glad he got to play so much these last couple years since his illness. I will blast Godspelized to the rafters today. Quote
Pete C Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 God, so sad. He was incredible. I'm glad he got to play so much these last couple years since his illness. Yes, glad that he did have that opportunity to come back strong for a while. Quote
BeBop Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Like sonnymax, it took me a little while to warm to his (early) playing. But I did, and I'm glad I did. Quote
Justin V Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 I first heard David S. Ware on Go See the World only earlier this year, and I was impressed by the album's power and accessibility. I plan on checking out some of his solo work, but it appears that he knew how to pick sidemen. RIP. Quote
mjazzg Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 No, this is so sad. and just not what i wanted to hear. Always loved his playing and was lucky to see him live with a marvellous quartet once. he played with such heart and soul and the world will be both poorer and quieter without him. RIP Quote
RDK Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Ah hell. Listening to "Live in the World" now. RIP Mr. Ware. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) Kali Z. Fasteau: The wonderful uncompromising saxophonist & composer David S. Ware left his earthly form yesterday, after a very long grueling fight for his life. Blessings to him in his next life. Edited October 19, 2012 by alocispepraluger102 Quote
