slide_advantage_redoux Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 There are a few films I have seen which are totally lame, yet they still seem to have a charm. "Re-animator" and "Bride of Re-animator" fit this category well in my experience. Quote
Blue Train Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Anything by Ed Wood. At this point most of Nicholas Cage's films. The Island Of Dr. Moreau with Brando and Kilmer. Catwoman Reefer Madness Howard the Duck Showgirls Battlefield Earth The Terror of Tiny Town Beyond the Valley of the Dolls Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! medjuck Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Starship Troopers. This may not count because I think they did it on purpose. Quote
Blue Train Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Starship Troopers. This may not count because I think they did it on purpose. Which reminds me of Basic Instinct. Quote

T.D. Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Street Fighter: The Movie with JCVD Just about all of JCVD's oeuvre contends in this category...I suppose Steven Seagal deserves mention as well, but it's too painful for me to recall the films I've seen. Quote
fasstrack Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 They Saved Hitler's Brain-title says it all, also Plan 9 from Outer Space. Both seriously conceived sci-fi romps so bad they are classics. I think Roger Debris directed both... Quote

Shawn Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Starship Troopers. This may not count because I think they did it on purpose. Completely. The first example in this thread was "Re-Animator" which was also campy on purpose so it doesn't really count either. Quote
Dave James Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Starship Troopers is the template for how to make a really bad movie out of a really good book. Robert Heinlein probably hasn't stopped spinning in his grave since the film was released. Quote
fasstrack Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Death to Smoochy was pretty awful, but it was too mean to really qualify as camp. Man, I was so embarassed for Robin Williams watching that. Quote
Noj Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Commando Twister Both can and should be watched as comedies. Quote
Blue Train Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 I see you and raise you Fritz Lang's Indian Epic in a nutshell....at least yours is supposed to be a comedy and campy with Shirley MacLaine, Peter Ustinov, and Jim Backus...come on now! Quote
David Ayers Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 I thought all great movies were knowingly camp, but all the earnest mediocre ones only accidentally so. And shit movies like Avatar couldn't be camp if they tried. Quote
Dave James Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 I thought all great movies were knowingly camp, but all the earnest mediocre ones only accidentally so. And shit movies like Avatar couldn't be camp if they tried. I found Avatar to be interesting from a technological standpoint. Never having seen a 3D movie before, it was a lot of fun. As far as the story and its execution, completely lame and utterly forgettable. Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Like Showgirls, this defines "campy": Quote
RDK Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Now I'm almost embarrassed to say that I think a few of the films listed above are actually pretty good! Quote
Quincy Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 (edited) The Room is highly recommended for fans of bad cinema. It's so bad that at times I wanted to bail but something so idiotic would happen and drag me back into it. I should clarify that I do have a friend who ended being a replacement for an actor who dropped out during the shooting of the movie. In some cities (even my own) it will appear on the late movie circuit like Rocky Horror with fans who scream out lines. Here's one write up although there are spoilers, if one can spoil a spoiled movie to begin with. Exquisitely bad! Edited October 10, 2012 by Quincy Quote
