undergroundagent Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 Hi Folks, I searched the archives for specific reviews of this title, but didn't find anything that discussed this album in any substantial detail. Thus, what is everyone's opinion of this album? I use to have the vinyl, but I haven't heard it in quite some time. I just purchased the Japanese Mini LP from a fellow board member, but I'm also interested to hear what people think of it. As I recall, this was a fantastic album with a terrific band. Thanks. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 I consider it a fantastic album with a terrific band! B) Seriously, I haven't heard this in a while and I ought to pull it out and listen to it again soon. I really like this one, Max's band really does well supporting Tommy here as a featured artist. . . . It's good good stuff. I bought a new version of the Sonny Clark Trio on Time last year, a hybrid SACD, that sounded fantastic compared to any other version of that session I've ever heard, and I've thought of getting the Tommy Turrentine hybrid SACD too. . . . I bet it's a smart thing to do for the remastering. (I don't have an SACD player, but the Hoffman remastering is great on plain ole cd). Quote
Brad Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 I loved Tommy's stuff so I'd give it thumbs up. Although I haven't listened to this one in a while, I dig all his stuff. It's too bad he didn't record more. Quote
ghost of miles Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 (I don't have an SACD player, but the Hoffman remastering is great on plain ole cd). Lon, I know a gent in the Bay Area who can give you the skinny on all this SACD business. Is this the Bainbridge album? Quote
jazzbo Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 Hey I think I know that same "gent"! Yes, the Bainbridge/Time. Quote
BeBop Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 IMO, The Turrentine is very good, the Sonny Clark is great. SACD issues with alternates worth the money! (Heck I paid more for my Time/Bainbridge CDs than they want for the re-issues.) Quote
Jazztropic Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 He has very few things out there. All I have are tops.I wish he did more!! Quote
