B. Goren. Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 If anyone has this set, I'd be happy to read a review. Quote
king ubu Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) I plan to get it, but not right away ... I did look into it some - it's for one, not complete. The (great, great!) Rachmaninov 3CD set has some music not included, and I also ordered (but am still waiting for) the (Busoni what was I thinking?) Scriabin 2CD set. You will definitely not need the 80th B-day 3CD set though, all of that seems to be included. And you might also want to look for Ogdon's recording of Sorabji's "Opus Clavicembalisticum" - amazing! Also I gather Ogdon's recording of Messiaen's "Visions de l'Amen" (with Brenda Lucas, currently available on Explore Records in a nice CD reissue) is great - it's been lying around here for a while, ought to finally play it. B. Goren. Posted October 5, 2012 Author Report Posted October 5, 2012 Thanks Flurin. I plan to order it in the near future. Quote
king ubu Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Gave a first listen to the EMI 2CD-set compiling Ogdon's Scriabin recordings (rec. June 1971) - most impressive! Not sure if it's the Scriabin I'll want to hear most often (that might, indeed, be Sofronitsky's), but Ogdon is great in these pieces, running the gamut from his oft-cited highly dynamic and intense playing to soft and lyrical - he's really got it down, I think! My first impression of the 3CD set compiling his Rachmaninov is similarly positive, btw - and both of these are not or only partially included in the ICON (which I definitely want to get rather sooner than later now).
