Very cool! Bud Freeman was his own man. "The Dolphin Has a Message," from the early 80's sometime, is a great one, but my favorite stuff is a bunch of trio sides he made with Jess Stacy and George Wettling in 1938.

Had personal experiences with both. At one point in my dealings with Hodes he promised a lawsuit because I billed Jabbo Smith ahead of him. My Freeman memories are warmer. I brought him back the Chicago, and the US for a festival gig. He stayed and finally died there. He was a frequent guest at our home and I accompanied him to Bears games - he loved Walter Payton. After any number of plays he'd say "The man is an artist, isn't he".
