slide_advantage_redoux Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 I notice a tendency that follows female jazz musicians, esp those who play horns, and that is, when they solo they usually receive huge amounts of applause. Sometimes it really doesn't seem to equal the quality of the performance...but of course I recognize the relationship between performance and acceptance as subjective. When I witness this, It strikes me as patronizing. I wonder how it makes female soloists feel. Sure, we aren't supposed to care whether the audience claps or not; we ourselves know if we played well, etc. But I would imagine that it would get tiresome and almost embarrassing. Just a thought. A Lark Ascending Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 Not as much applause as a drummer at the end of the blessed drum solo. Quote
