Just got an e-mail from CD Universe to say that Lonnie's new album will be issued on 18 September. It's a live album on the Pilgrimage label, of which I've never heard.

Anyone know who's on it with Lonnie? The names are too small for me to read.

It's a live trio recording, with Jonathan Kreisberg on guitar and Jamire Williams on drums. Three tracks from a 2011 concert in Hungary and three tracks recorded at Jazz Standard in January 2012. It is very good. It's been available on amazon.com since mid-August. The label is Lonnie Smith's own.

Saw this trio in Bloomington last year and they were excellent.

This originally was going to be a live recording at a Brooklyn warehouse, recorded to analog and with a horn section, and Tain Watts as drummer. Tain told me that he had to unfortunately leave the project, which was funded on Kickstarter. Tain has a growing family also, I was looking forward to hearing Lonnie and Tain.

I think he raised $20K for the project
