BeBop Posted September 8, 2012 Report Posted September 8, 2012 I don't have a home, so my listening alternatives are different than most people. But I gotta believe that others share my joy in listening in the car. Crappy environment, poor sound, lots of distractions, no LPs* but there's still something about it. Choose your own volume (and, potentially achieve some high SPLs), choose your own music, rattle the windows at 3:00AM... Heck, I don't even worry about having a purpose for being in the car. Parked in the hotel parking lot is good for me...especially at 3:00AM. * Yes, I know there are automotive turntables, but let's be real here. Quote
JSngry Posted September 8, 2012 Report Posted September 8, 2012 Cars and bathrooms, where else can you ever be really alone with your thoughts and your odors...and have no concerns about either? Quote

kh1958 Posted September 8, 2012 Report Posted September 8, 2012 Yes, an iPod and a car with a good stereo is rather fun. Quote
BeBop Posted September 8, 2012 Author Report Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) Where are your magazine subscriptions sent? Some I read on my e-reader, but I also have four post office boxes in airport hub cities: Rosemont, IL Stapleton, CO. Millbrae CA and Newark NJ. I also have a forwarding arrangement with a private mailbox company (a la Mailboxes Etc.). Mail's not a problem. Opening a financial services account is. Even the DMV issued a drivers license to a PO Box, but try Charles Schwab! I know Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering. Edited September 9, 2012 by BeBop Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 I have a 35 minute run to work, both ways; the evening can be longer depending on traffic. I love listening on those journeys - I really look forward to getting in the car and enjoying an album. The iPod smart playlist function is brilliant for car journeys - I've recently had it randomly on genres with the word 'folk' in the title. Amazing what emerges from the depths. I find it very hard to sit and listen to speech on the radio - I have to be doing something manual (not anything that involves reading - I miss the speech and lose track of the reading). So the car is a great place to listen to anything with lots of talk. I just need to get better at recording it and dropping it on the iPod. Quote
