alocispepraluger102 Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 This month, WKCR-FM NY is honoring the centennial of defining 20th-century composer John Cage (1912-1992). On September 5th, Cage’s 100th birthday, we’ll be presenting 24 hours of John Cage programming. Additionally, from September 3rd through September 30th, all Afternoon New Music (M/T/W 3-6pm) and Transfigured Night (T/Th 1am-5am, Sat 2am-6am) programs will be dedicated to Cage’s music, writing, and influences. Tune in during the month for special broadcasts of Cage’s Opera Mix, recorded at WKCR in 1987, and for exclusive interviews with Cage’s friends and collaborators. Quote
Pete C Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 One of my biggest regrets is not having met Cage. I published something of his in the "Nothing Issue" of my magazine, and we put on a "Benefit for Nothing" at Symphony Space in 1982. Cage had agreed to open the show with a reading, but a couple of weeks in advance I got a call from Cage telling me that a conflict had come up, a lecture in Toronto, so instead I moved Jon Gibson to the top of the program, and he did a beautiful solo soprano piece. It was some consolation that we did get Oliver Lake & Pheeroan Ak-Laff at the last minute to do a duet. Quote
