mikeweil
At last, the Frank Wess & Johnny Coles album, after it was featured in a recent Blindfold Test ... nice: But who's that tenor guy? Dan Gould
I was really hoping to break this news myself but I do have more information on the Grant Green. Like the Hank Mobley release, Grant was not the leader on this club set. The leader is organist Sam Lazar, who recorded, iirc, three times for Argo and then disappeared. Several tracks were identified by listening to Space Flight. In fact, now that I look at the Grant Green discography, this club gig took place some months prior to the recording session. Really looking forward to this and I doubt I'll wait til Christmas to let someone else pay for it. Edit to add: full band is Green, Lazar, Chauncy Williams (drums) and Bob Graf (tenor sax) Edited September 1, 2012 by Dan Gould
brownie
So the tenorsax player shown along with Grant Green is Bob Graf! Nice to have more music from this unheralded musician. And with Grant Green to boot
bertrand
Any idea of a setlist for the Grant Green? I am getting this one as soon as it comes out! Bertrand.
David Ayers
I thought Green always played a hollow body of some kind - what's he got there?
BeBop
Is the Wess/Coles a New Release or is it a reissue of this? Glad to see the Grant Green. Still waiting for this one, though!

sonnymax
Is the Wess/Coles a New Release or is it a reissue of this? Given that it shares the same title, I'd imagine it is. JSngry
Why is the Wess/Coles date so much more expensive than the GG? Will there be snacks?

jazzbo
Strats can make nice jazzy sounds. I'm hoping it's used on the date.

Dave James
How hard would it have been to find just a slightly better picture of Johnny Coles?
sidewinder
Last time I saw Coles play (with 'Mingus Dynasty' at Ronnie Scotts) I'm sure he was wearing that very same cap and jacket. Brings back the memories ! I have that LP too and will dig it out (ie. first see if I can find it. ) Edited September 2, 2012 by sidewinder
