He was 41. Although there was no mention of his passing on his official site, the Hartford Courant reported his passing over the weekend. Acclaimed jazz pianist Michel Camilo -- whose Michel Camilo Trio included Flores -- told the publication Flores was "a wonderful human being loved by all of us, and also by many fans worldwide who enjoyed his amazing talent and unforgettable smile." He also added Flores was "truly gifted with a unique musical sensibility as well as a profound knowledge of the Latin rhythms and the jazz tradition."" Quote

ValerieB Posted August 29, 2012 Report Posted August 29, 2012 (edited) I guess if he'd been funny looking, it would not have been quite as bad a thing. another extremely inappropriate and mean-spirited post from Mr. Lowe. and what a classless, disrespectful thing to do on a R.I.P. thread. CJ Shearn Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 Very young, and tragic to have had throat cancer at that age. I agree Allen's remark is classless. Quote
AllenLowe Posted August 30, 2012 Report Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) missing the point as usual, Val and CJ. I find it offensive that a tragedy is considered to be magnified by the physical attractiveness of the person who died, A friend of mine once complained about all the headlines in the NY Post that said "honor student slain." As though we would care less about an average or bad student. the other day in the Times a father of a dead girl said, "you cannot imagine what it is like to lose such a beautiful creature" as though her beauty made the tragedy so much grander, and we parents of ordinary looking children would feel less at their loss. Part of the bizarre American way in which physical appearance is destiny. Personally I mourn Flores because he was a human being. Edited August 30, 2012 by AllenLowe Quote
