mikeweil Posted November 8, 2012 Report Posted November 8, 2012 (edited) This morning when I drove 'round the corner for my weekly dance improvisation class at the Frankfurt Music High School, I spotted Hille Perl and Lee Santana, the best viol and lute duet on the early music scene in Germany. Now this might not seem unusual for a music school, but they live 400 miles away and have no teaching appointment here, so ... nice surprise. I wonder what they were up to. JSngry Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Shopping for clothes in a color other than black? Just kidding - all-black clothes have been the prerequisite "hip look" for so long now that when a gig calls for it, I pretty much know it's going to be anything but. C'mon folks, let the sun shine in. Let there be real colors for a change. Seriously. Quote
rostasi Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 A couple of months ago, I was listening to a live performance of a work dedicated to John Cage. What was unusual is that it was a new work composed by George Lewis - mostly anti-Cage in his recent book A Power Stronger Than Itself.... It was a good work that used a transcribed "Baby" Dodds solo in various places if I remember correctly. During applause, he surprised me further by actually being there to accept it. We talked later, but I didn't have the heart to bring up this paradox that was spinning around in my brain. A very nice guy. Quote
