Leroy Bad Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) I currently have a 3 CD box set of Miles Davis' Workin Relaxin'. Steamin albums on Proper Records UK from 2008. I'm not sure if its bootleg or not, but I did notice that all the album sound Mono. I was thinking of upgrading to a new box set released last year on Prestige which has the RVG remasterings, but I wanted to know if there were or if there exists Stereo version of these albums? jeffcrom Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 No. Although some companies were recording in stereo by 1956, Prestige wasn't one of them, and the first stereo records weren't released until late in 1957. Quote
Leroy Bad Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 I have Cookin on a seperate release. The box set I was considering was http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Albums-Miles-Davis/dp/B005HWUD4O/ but if its not Stereo I'm backing out. The issues that I have say they digitally remastered but no credits are given. They sound decent but noticeably mono. Quote
J.A.W. Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 The Proper set is a European public-domain release, which means that they didn't have access to the master tapes and copied the material from sources like other CDs. This Prestige set sonically seems the best choice to me. Like jeffcrom posted, the recordings are mono, Prestige didn't start recording in stereo until later. Quote
