patricia Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 (edited) Another virus to be on the lookout for... Novarg Virus Yes. I was tipped off the other day. It can appear as someone you usually correspond with, or just a name you don't recognize. It looks like a personal message with an attachment. Luckily my correspondant called me to ask if I had sent anything, before opening it. His had my name as the sender and the subject was "Hi", making it seem like a harmless note. Mine was an unknown name, with the same subject, "Hi". I deleted it and dumped my deleted file immediatly and don't have a problem, but it's diabolical and pointless, as all these viruses are. neveronfriday Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 I've had at least three of these from people I know today ... why do people open this crap? Duh! Quote
patricia Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 (edited) I've had at least three of these from people I know today ... why do people open this crap? Duh! I understand what you're saying, but the thing about this one is that it looks like one you would open. I only knew about it, because of the way it appeared on the list of e-mails as a normal e-mail. Normally I would have opened it, because "Hi" is not an unusual subject. The only reason I didn't open it was that I had been warned by someone who is a computer systems analyst and was, himself, almost fooled because his seemed to come from me. It's not about the stupidity of the recipient. It's not really fair to blame the recipient. The virus people are the ones who are being destructive. It's an assault and blaming the victim is not the right response, IMO. The virus-sender is the one who did something criminal, not the recipient who was simply reading their mail. 7/4 Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 I've received about a half a dozen or so of these. Norton Anti-virus is doing a great job! Quote
scottb Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 Anyone know about this. I've gotten a couple messages titled "Your new account" or "You new credit limit" and since I just got a new Credit Card I opened it only to see this: a;lditupqeoirgnda/lvkgjae;oriuryheilruhbna'dz;dodufoiqeurthgbs;elkrg I deleted it of course and when it returned I didn't open it. My anti virus didn't pick up anything and I haven't had any problems yet but that's kinda scary. The first time I was upset that I had opened it so I sent it back to the sender which of course was undeliverable. Thank goodness because you really don't want to get into it with these types. They could ruin my credit or use my accounts or God knows what else. As above, what's the point with these sensless acts of cyber vandalism? Vandalism is one thing I've never understood. Quote
