wesbed Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 I have enjoyed Randy's music off & on through the years. More 'off' in recent years. More 'on' in the late 1980s. However, the music stands apart from the man. He looks like trash, looks like he's not had a content life, mostly. Quote
Neal Pomea Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 Country music got better for a little while, I think, when he was on top. I don't bother to listen anymore. Hope he can pull his life together. Sounds like a bitter breakup with his wife/manager. Quote

BruceH Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 You can't indulge so much bad production (particularly in recent years) without it having some bad personal repercussions. ( ) Quote
sksmith66 Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 second arrest in less than a year and he was naked at the scene? sounds like he is hitting the sauce really hard Quote

sksmith66 Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 alt-country is pretty much the closest thing to "real" country music these days. the country stuff that is really popular is just pop music sang with a southern drawl. if you think country sucks go listen to some son volt, drive-by truckers, jason isbell, lucero, ryan bingham, justin townes earle, ryan adams, wilco, etc... wesbed Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 Now however, country is...well I don't know what the fuck it is. Ha! I'm right there with you, my friend. I grew up with country music. However, where ever it has come is not where I have gone. Quote
slide_advantage_redoux Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 When I want to hear country,. I dig out my Ernest Tubb, my Marty Robbins. Don Williams, Dwight Yoakum and a few others. This new stuff is just cookie cutter, formulaic. what works before will work now shit. And most of the hits are all written by the same selct few. And a lot of the time, the band members are interchangeable on the hit CDs...same cats working with different big names. Boring Quote

I dig out my Ernest Tubb, my Marty Robbins. Don Williams, Dwight Yoakum and a few others." amen, brother douxy. a few years ago, i listened as a successful nashville country pop song writer listed the criteria for the very specific demographics, words, and types of music the producer-artist types wanted. that stuff is as bland as common beer. it is like using a recipe, sausage grinder, and canned ingredients to make sausage. JSngry Posted August 15, 2012 Report Posted August 15, 2012 I'm waiting for something like a Randy Travis/Madlib joint that everybody digs and nobody bats an eye at, so if anybody's confused, it's probably me. Is the wait almost over? Quote
rostasi Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Randy Travis allegedly in fight near Texas church. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 It's been a rough year for RT Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 This is in Sangrey's neighborhood. Maybe he can report. Quote
JSngry Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 If a man comes to my neighborhood to go to church naked, and then goes to the Valero to hit his girlfriend's boyfriend and then comes to my house to buy a pack of cigarettes, so long as he's not naked in front of my wife or daughter, I'm just gonna look the other way, even if it is Randy Travis. Why? Because I've had the same courtesy extended to me by lesser men that Randy Travis. A man don't forget shit like that. Quote
