Simon8 Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 Hello ! I'm looking for Paul Bley's "Blood" on CD (with Mark Levinson & Barry Altschul), released by Fontana in 1966, and reissued on CD in 1990 (Fontana #PHCE-1006) - not to be confounded with the live set "Blood: Paul Bley in Haarlem". Here's the tracklist and the cover below . Let me know ! 1. Blood 4:20 2. Albert's Love Theme 5:05 3. El Cordobes 3:45 4. Only Sweetly 6:15 5. Seven 2:40 6. Mister Joy 5:40 7. Ramblin' 4:35 8. Kid Dynamite 2:55 9. Nothing Ever Was, Anyway 5:45 10. Pig Foot 2:35 Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 Great record. Sometimes those Japanese Fontana CDs are harder to find than the vinyl! Looks like it pops up on eBay and Discogs from time to time, so you should be able to score one eventually. Quote
Simon8 Posted July 26, 2012 Author Report Posted July 26, 2012 I hope so ! I recently saw one on ebay but missed my chance. The Bley-Levinson-Altschul trio is great on « Ramblin’» ; I expect « Blood » to be as memorable. Quote
JohnS Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 FWIW I have this very disc in my collection Quote
sonnymax Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 FWIW I have this very disc in my collection So, are you going to give Simon your copy? Quote

LWayne Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 I have been looking for this CD for a long time as well. Have not wanted to pay a ransom to purchase on Ebay. I will have to settle for CD Rom version that a friend burned for me. LWayne Quote
brownie Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 That Fontana 'Blood' LP uses the same Marta Roling drawing that adorned the cover of the Debut LP 'Touching' I have Also have that Bley original LP BUT I am not giving my BLOOD away Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 This is the Dutch/UK pressing of the Fontana Blood. I used to have a somewhat worn copy but switched to a minty Japanese one with the Roling jacket. Quote
JSngry Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 Minty, you say! Never a bad idea after blood, what with how some people get when they smell blood and such. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 Well as soon as it hits the deck it's no longer mint, I guess, but I catch your drift... Quote
JSngry Posted July 28, 2012 Report Posted July 28, 2012 I try to keep minty when I'm with people. Especially after dining and before dancing. Quote
Late Posted May 22, 2021 Report Posted May 22, 2021 Any new leads on this evasive CD? It's currently the missing piece in my Paul Bley puzzle. Quote

Sorry, have trouble posting a pic, but at least part of Blood is being reissued by Ezzthetics by Hat Hut. Edited May 23, 2021 by AaronG Remove link Quote

I think that version is the long (18:40) live one from Haarlem - different LP/CD release as noted above ("Live In Haarlem - Blood" as opposed to just "Blood") Also note that the original Dutch LP release in 1966 did not sport a Marte Roling cover. I think that only started with the Japanese reissue LP in 1984 Quote

Still looking for this on compact disc. Downtown Music Gallery's CDR's weren't so bad after all ... (though the mysterious Japanese edition would probably be better). Quote
LWayne Posted May 29, 2021 Report Posted May 29, 2021 I finally found the Japanese CD through Dusty Groove after having it on my "notify" section for years. It is very hard to find. LWayne Quote
