robertoart Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) Is Bolt better than Carl Lewis? No sure...... He's got a more engaging personality that's for sure. And a Jamaican accent. He just comes across as a great guy who's simply the best in the world. Edited August 9, 2012 by freelancer Quote
Jim R Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 Forgot to mention Ryan Seacrest and his installments. Screw the fact that we don't have enough time for covering field events at the olympic ****ing games, let's have Ryan Seacrest talk to people in prime time about what's going on in social media. People are talking about Gabby! Fantastic. Thanks so much for that important reporting. Quote
brownie Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 Bolt is Nr. 1 more than ever after his victory in the 200-meter run. But yesterday's other hero was Kenya's David Rudisha, the winner of the 800-meter in world record time! Quote
EKE BBB Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 Brownie, did you watch the France-Spain basketball match on Wednesday? With all due respect (to you, not to your national team), it was yet another pathetic performance by the French team against Spain, losing the match by themselves, and finally acting like idiots or beasts, attacking the Spanish players like karateists! But yesterday's other hero was Kenya's David Rudisha, the winner of the 800-meter in world record time! When Rudisha first beat Wilson Kipketer's former world record (1:41:11) back in 2010, experts said he would be the first human being going under the mythical 1:40. Now, with three consecutive new world records, he's on his way to legend! Quote

Dave James Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 Words fail me when I try to express how much I would enjoy a United States loss in today's semi-final. The U.S. team isn't anything more than a neighborhood bully beating up on all the little kids who live on the same block. I won't even be watching. The PGA Championship beats this like a rented mule. Missed the men's basketball France-Spain live but caught Batum's punch to Navarro in news replays. A disgraceful gesture. Understand Batum later apologised. Seems that a number of French participants have entered the whining competition and aiming for medals there with too many of them complaining about adverse players who defeated them 'for the wrong reasons'. Note that the silver and bronze medalists are only 18 and 17 respectively! And the 800m WR is by no means "soft" - to this date only two men (Rudisha and Kipketer) have gone under Coe's ancient 1981 mark (and silver medalist Amos just equaled it). Quote
jazzkrow Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 I have been in London since the 31st of July. Got into 2 track sessions and one indoor track cycling session. Really want to go to tomorrows 5000 meter on last day of Track, but with tickets going for over $1500 USD, it will never happen for me. Walked by Ronnie Scotts club in Soho yesterday. Roy Ayers is there Monday night. Getting the hang of navigating the Tube. If any locals are around and would like to hang, I am here till Tuesday morning. Send me a PM or e-mail. Have not bought one CD yet, but a few days left. I am staying near the Shepherds Bush Tube stop. Would be cool to meet some local Board members. Quote

robertoart Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Rewatched Rudisha winning the 800-meter run and tend to agree with Steve Cram's opinion Cram in The Telegraph I watched this live as it unfolded in the early hours in Australia. The commentators could not hide their joy at the performance. They said the same thing as Cram. It took me right away from the hype. The walking is on now. Another event that always seems plagued with controversy and authenticity. Last second entry for the USA squad India did it first. Edited August 11, 2012 by freelancer Quote
sidewinder Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 (edited) Rewatched Rudisha winning the 800-meter run and tend to agree with Steve Cram's opinion Cram in The Telegraph I was there in the stadium for this 800m WR race and it was an astonishing run by David Rudisha, a most worthy Olympic gold medalist in a superb lineup of runners. Definitely the highlight of a spectacular evening - and that includes the Usain Bolt 200m. The atmosphere in the Olympic Stadium was electric ! Bolt coasted it in the latter part of his race after destroying the competition before the first 50 was out. If the stories in the media are true, could be that I've just seen his last major sprint final. Edited August 11, 2012 by sidewinder Quote

If I weren't 180 miles north of London, I'd meet up with you. Read a newspaper review of Ayers' Scott's gig today. There's only one jazz record store left in London AFAIK: it's Ray's Jazz which is located inside Foyle's bookstore on Charing Cross Road (nearest tube station Leicester Square). Quite a big stock, but everything can be bought cheaper online! Edited August 11, 2012 by BillF Quote

Sorry to say that I have now headed back West but I wish you a very enjoyable stay ! Yes, 'Ray's Jazz' is about the last specialist shop left in London. Worth checking the Fopp stores for possible bargains (there's one just off Shaftesbury Avenue at Cambridge Circus) - and maybe also HMV on Oxford St (reasonable choice but no bargains). Neal Pomea Posted August 12, 2012 Report Posted August 12, 2012 Tough field for the men's 5K race! Can we see a repeat of Farrah and Rupp? I would bet on the Ethiopians they beat in the 10K. Quote
