Adam
Saw it, will get, but haven't yet. Anyone else get it yet? Blue Notes in Black and White: Photography and Jazz by Benjamin Cawthra (Oct 1, 2011) One I did get which is a nice photo book is a new one with Bob Willoughby's photos & comments: Jazz: Photographs and Recollections by Bob Willoughby (Jun 15, 2012) It includes his classic photos with Big Jay McNeely at the Olympic Auditorium from 1951 as well It's selling pretty cheap, but it's a nice hardcover slip-covered book with ribbon and it seems like pretty good quality paper. Chuck Nessa
Looks like a "slam dunk" lawsuit if anyone at EMI cared.
Adam
For which? Willoughby might well have been smart enough to retain copyright on all of his photos, and not sign any normal Work for Hire contracts, but it's all conjecture. And my guess is for the other book that they licensed the photos. However, it is an academic text analyzing them, so they could fall under Fair Use.
