Just began to listen to the Benedetti-Bird material after many years of hesitation. Don't hesitate! Fabulous playing, different from much other Bird in (the LA material at least) its relaxed aura, and the ear (or my ear) immediately adjusts to variations in sound quality and the Bird-only excerpts. Kind of scares me to think that I sat on the sidelines here for all these years.

This is my favorite Mosaic of all as I find the music endlessly fascinating. The part where Benedetti is playing Bird's part over a recording is creepy, beautiful, sick, and amazing, all at the same time. I feel strange every time I hear those cuts.

I've been thinking of using the promo to get the Anthony Braxton set. I keep hesitating because I'm not a big fan of the avant garde, and I wonder honestly whether I'd enjoy it, whether it's accessible to me. Not that anyone else can really answer that question, I guess!

It's a great set for people who are totally into Braxton's Arista stuff, but I returned it, it was "too much" for me.
