I raised the same question some time ago. With all the takes from the SONY/BMG vaults it would be a huge set ... of course there would be heavy duplication with the Hawkins set.

The Henderson set was abandoned. Mosaic's Scott Wenzel told me that "the Hawk set had somewhat to do why the Henderson was abandoned." He also said that they just had other projects that trumped the Henderson and they did have a bunch of Henderson on the Chu Berry set as well. So, no Henderson set in the foreseeable future. I posted about that here and here.

I have the "Study in Frustration" 4 LP box and that always made me want more.

It's a pity that some always are put on the waiting list and then are dropped altogether. Henderson is such an important figure that never got as much credit as he would have deserved, methinks. And that band was so great, with so many names that made history ...

The CD version of that set is a sonic disaster, the music is killed by noise reduction.

we have a pharmacy here, the "Henderson Apotheke", which claims to be the only pharmacy world-wide named after Fletcher Henderson - could well be true...

I have both those sets. It would have been nice if all the Henderson stuff was in one package...especially since it was his band. I have to agree with mikeweil.

It will be interesting to see what trumped a Fletcher Henderson set.

Thank you for taking time to respond. :)

Didn't the Chick Webb/Ella Fitzgerald set take priority? And the now scheduled Mingus?

The idea of a Henderson set dates from years back and the set was abandoned long before the Mingus appeared on the horizon, and also before the Webb/Fitzgerald plans took shape if I'm not mistaken.

Number of ways to explore Henderson (if you really want to) via sideman compilations of Hawk, Berry, Pops and Red Allen. Fortunately I picked up all the Chronological Classics discs and the Neatworks.

Frequently the band was a mess, but when it was on..........

A complete Henderson set would have been nice, but, as Chuck said, the band was frequently a mess, so the set would have been pretty uneven.

Didn't he have a masters degree in chemistry?
