alocispepraluger102 Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) several weeks ago, i noticed that hearing in my right ear was greatly diminished. oh the mental anguish. what if the other ear goes? should i get a hearing aid? is this affecting my driving or walking and biking on busy streets??? i had to lie on only one side to hear the radio when i went to bed. i checked for ear wax and found little. this went out for at least a month. then my hearing mysteriously and miraculously returned. such unspeakable joy!!!!!! this morning i am listening to my treasured marian anderson spirituals and duke plays ellington vinyls with an appreciation not previously had. my hearing is going away. no it ismn't!!!! cih Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) pardon? i went to the docs a while back and he told me that if I can't hear people's conversations it was their problem and they should speak up! I was urged to go by my wife (who mumbles) Edited July 11, 2012 by cih Quote
John Tapscott Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) I know from personal experience that just a very little ear wax can greatly affect one's hearing (and sometimes one's comfort). And when it eventually gives way, it's like you are in a whole new world of audio delight. Anyway, I'm glad that whatever it was has cleared up! Edited July 11, 2012 by John Tapscott Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted July 11, 2012 Author Report Posted July 11, 2012 a whole new world indeed. i did use one of those $5 ear wax kits from rite aid. maybe this should become a monthly ritual. Quote
JSngry Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 Is there a thread for each ear, is that the deal? Quote

Christiern Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 It is said that the elusive Buddy Bolden wax cylinder ended up in Phil Schaap's ears—he tried to listen too closely. He never got to hear what was on that cylinder—so I am told—but he hasn't been hearing much of anything since the cylinder dissolved. That, according to informed sources, is what has led to Phil's complete rewrite of jazz history. Was I Bixin'? Correct me if you suspect that I'm wrong. Quote

Since it miraculously disappeared and then returned, I would have this looked at. You don't want to mess around. I suffer from tinnitis and although I've gotten used to it (tuned out the background noise), it will return on occasion. Had a bad bout for a few hours on Monday. Quote

Free For All Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) I suffer from tinnitis and although I've gotten used to it (tuned out the background noise), it will return on occasion. I have tinnitus too, mostly due to a lifetime of sitting in front of trumpet sections and next to drummers in big bands. I don't notice it until I'm in a quiet room, then it's very noticeable. If I ever got put in solitary confinement I'd probably go crazy. I sleep with a fan on (or some other ambient noise) so it doesn't bother me at night. Occupational hazard I guess. BTW, I've tried using earplugs when I play but I never could get used to playing with them. Edited July 11, 2012 by Free For All Quote

Brad Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 My hearing is somewhat decent but in crowded rooms it's not easy nor in listening to tv english programs. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 I think you'll find that if you draw round each ear with a magic marker and then put both ears in the freezer, your troubles will vanish. Failing this, try reversing the polarity of your brain. Quote
