riverrat Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 1967 live session. Sounds interesting... Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 I have a 1CD (75 min) version of this, I believe there is a 2CD version with one extra tune. It's been a while but I do like it, different but not that different from the way they played together 5-6 years earlier. Quote
J.A.W. Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 (edited) It was released in Japan as a 24-bit remastered mini-LP sleeve CD (Victor BSCP-30039) in 2002: Edited January 24, 2004 by J.A.W. Quote
brownie Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 I have a double LP from VeeJay Japan of this. Have not heard this in a while but I recall a great 'Mobley solo in 'If You Could See Me Now' from the session which was recorded at the Left Bank Society in Baltimore. The six tracks add up to about 90 minutes. Wynton Kelly is in top form. Mobley shows he could still produce good solos even if the date is not one of his very, very best... This was reissued on Fresh Sounds recently on a 2CD. Quote
ghost of miles Posted July 1, 2017 Report Posted July 1, 2017 Just ordered the 2-CD Fresh Sounds version of this. What do others here who've heard it think? Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted July 5, 2017 Report Posted July 5, 2017 would you believe all these years i was MISSING one of the cuts, on the cd-r i had.......for years i was holding out of an original, or should i say an original is holding out on me. finally just got the freshsound most recent issue an original lp i mean Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted July 6, 2017 Report Posted July 6, 2017 I was somewhat surprised at how much better the audio is on Kelly's 1967 Left Bank 2 CD set than it is on the 1968 2 CD set. The '67 material with Mobley sounds like a professional recording... at least it would if Hank would've stayed on mic. The '68 recording with Coleman sounds like a bootleg. Quote
bertrand Posted July 10, 2017 Report Posted July 10, 2017 The provenance/source of some of these Left Bank tapes remains a huge mystery which I am trying to unravel, but with not much luck so far. Some come from the society's archives, some not. Bertrand. Quote

Wasn't the 1967 recording made for release on VeeJay? At least the Japanese double LP which was the first issue appeared with the VeeJay logo and all. Quote

Again if memory serves the sound wasn't too special. Quote
mikeweil Posted July 11, 2017 Report Posted July 11, 2017 That's what I remember, too - I sold it because the music didn't thrill me that much. Quote
JSngry Posted July 12, 2017 Report Posted July 12, 2017 Was Vee-Jay even an active label in 1967? Quote
