926am Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 The times I get are 40:39 and 40:40 for discs 1 and 2. The music sounds the same but the quality of the recording is different. Quote
926am Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 has anyone contacted challenge records about this? Quote
romualdo Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 (edited) has anyone contacted challenge records about this? sent an email to Challenge today - see what they have to say Other anomaly that I've detected ICP CD 049 had a 12th "bonus" track (video of "Steigerpijp") that is not present on CD 049 in the box just received a reply regarding 1) Misha DVD, 2) ICP 049 & 3) cassette 017 To answer your questions: 1. The broadcasting company who owns the rights to this dvd did not allow ICP or us to replicate this disc for the boxset. We felt we wanted to offer a replacement instead and came across these never before released recordings of the concert with ASKO. 2. ICP049 was an exact copy of an original CD provided to us. There is no knowledge of a 12th track with us or the people from ICP who worked on this box with us. 3. You are the second person to imply these cd's are the same. It could be that for the original casette the decision was made to have the same audio put on side B as well, but ICP could not (yet) confirm if this is correct. clifford_thornton Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 Blergh.I haven't gotten that far yet and am about to head home for the holidays, but will check mine when I return. Probably will encounter the same issue. Quote
Hoppy T. Frog Posted January 12, 2013 Report Posted January 12, 2013 The two discs of ICP 17 are definitely identical. Quote
dankworth Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 This just got 5 stars in the September Downbeat. Any updates? Is this worth the money? Quote
king ubu Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 want to send me yours so I can judge myself? Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 It might be for sale, haven't decided yet. Quote
Steve Reynolds Posted August 6, 2013 Report Posted August 6, 2013 It might be for sale, haven't decided yet. Can I pick the few discs I want?!?! Quote
Stefan Wood Posted August 7, 2013 Report Posted August 7, 2013 I don't think he'll break up a very expensive set. Quote

bogdan101 Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 If you're interested in this material but can't (like me) swing at this box, about 35 of the ICP releases are on emusic. Quote

bogdan101 Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 I've started in order, and so far the early ones where Willem Breuker was involved are firecrackers; try 001, 007, 008, 009 and go from there. Quote

Now that might of interest -- if somebody recommended their favorite 3-5 recordings that are also on emusic. I always liked the Monk/Herbie Nichols albums. And I have a soft spot for the barrell organ album. Quote
king ubu Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 Any more opinions by now? I'm still tempted and it's still available (and pay is better right now, or rather: I'm working more than I used to in the past years). Quote
Leeway Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 I have it. I don't regret buying it (I bought it at the pre-sale price). Production values are not perfect, but good enough for me. I just like having so much rare material in one place, plus the historical material that accompanies it. Quote
David Ayers Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 No. But I have got the ICP catalogue on my laptop. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 I really wish the presentation had been better. Also some of the transfers are kind of crappy; the original LPs don't sound *that* bad and I guess they used some pretty battered copies with minimal restoration for this project. The duplicate cassette performance of Misha/Han is annoying, as are the wrecked transfers of the cassette orchestra releases. And those cheap mini-LP sleeves are underwhelming. Great music but come on, it could have been done better. I sold mine btw. Quote
king ubu Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 Thx everyone - I guess it's really too rich for me, all things considered. Quote
David Ayers Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 Just digging ICP 017... sorry, what were you saying? Quote
king ubu Posted February 21, 2015 Report Posted February 21, 2015 can't remember, it was but a stream Quote
