Hi All-

Here's a question for the experts...I bought a used CD today:

J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding The Great Kai & J.J.

Impulse MCAD-42012

Matrix says "Mfd by JVC"

Tray insert says "Manufactured for MCA Records, Inc."

No other info on where the CD was pressed, or mastering engineer.

Is this a Japan pressing? In an old post on SH Hans indicates this series came out in 1990; there was an earlier issue #(254 634-2) 32XD-620. I guess mine is the 2nd CD pressing. Does anyone know who mastered these, or if they are the same mastering?

In any case, it is a nice sounding mastering, not shrill.

Your question about a possible 2nd Jap pressing is PERFECT for the SH Forum.

They'd fall over their keys speculating who remastered your disc and from which source.

If you write them, include the code etched in the aluminum just outside the center spindle.

Once they decipher the secret code, we'll know if it's a 1st or 2nd pressing...and more!

Yes it is and I tried posting there 1st. But my post went down the queue so fast, buried in the avalanche of similar minutae about pressings and such, that I didn't get a response.

It says "JVC" in the center spindle (matrix). Does this mean Japan or US manufacture???? This is very important and I must know! :D
