Claude Schlouch Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Hi folks, Don't forget that today is a sad day because the great Art Pepper left us 30 years go. All of us like him and his music! He remains in our mind. RIP Quote
Justin V Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 I've been gaining a greater appreciation for his playing after recently acquiring his The Hollywood All-Star Sessions box. RIP. Quote
tranemonk Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Laurie has been a great champion for his music. I think she has done an amazing job with her Unreleased Art series. Looking forward to the next one in August. Quote
Roundsound Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Art Pepper had his own style. He morphed his style overtime, but still retained his originality. Also, best autobiography of all time. Quote
Dave James Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Also, best autobiography of all time. Agreed, at least from a musical perspective. Straight Life is a sobering ride. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 May, 1982 (1) Joe Segal's JAZZ SHOWCASE, Chicago (2) KOOL Jazz Festival, Kennedy Center, Washington, DC three weeks later several short weeks later.....Art died During that week a the Showcase I spent a lot of time with Art and Laurie. We were putting together a group of "Art Pepper All Stars" for the Chicago Jazz Festival. I had Russ Freeman, Jack Sheldon and Shelly Manne booked. We had not finalized the bass player, so that was left unsettled. I will never forget driving around the city one night looking for food at 4 am. We wound up at a Golden Nugget on Lincoln ave. Quote

ejp626 Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 I will never forget driving around the city one night looking for food at 4 am. We wound up at a Golden Nugget on Lincoln ave. I know that one! Actually never ate there, though I did eat at Golden Pancake or something over on Halsted. My go-to late night food in that neighborhood is Late Night Thai, which opens up around 9 pm and then is open until 5 or 6 am! (I'm sure it wasn't open back then, however.) Quote
