king ubu Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 So, did Miles prefer green or white onions? And did he share my liking for a Grimbergen every now and then? My own set should is on the way now, together with the new Barney Wilen disc! (But tonight, it will be Leffe brune) Quote
Free For All Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Shipping notice today! Should be here on Wednesday. Quote

CJ Shearn Posted January 29, 2013 Author Report Posted January 29, 2013 Still waiting for mine to ship since I ordered using a Amazon GC, it should enter "shipping soon" status shortly I hope. Quote
J.A.W. Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Got the set today from Amazon Germany and noticed that the DVD is region-free and NTSC. Just thought I'd mention it. Quote
Head Man Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 It's probably been discussed earlier but I really don't like this cover, it has the feel of a bootleg.......oh, I get it now! Quote

skeith Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Not sure why I bother to pre-order at Amazon US. I am still in "shipping soon" mode when J&R has it for the same price right now and it's just two blocks from me. Quote

CJ Shearn Posted January 30, 2013 Author Report Posted January 30, 2013 (edited) I changed from free to standard shipping and they put it in "shipping soon" status. It will probably change to "shipped" by the end of the night. Edit: it did ship! Edited January 30, 2013 by CJ Shearn Quote
felser Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 $32.99 at Popmarket. And sold out. Already a bit cheaper from some of the Amazon resellers, and my current usual best price resellers (importcds and moviemars) haven't even listed it yet. Quote
mgraham333 Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Got mine today. I popped in the DVD mostly as an experiment to see how long it would take my three year old to squawk and ask for Phineas and Ferb. To my surprise he made it most of the way through Directions before walking out. He was watching pretty intently for longer than I would have expected. Quote

jeffcrom Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Picked it up at my favorite Atlanta brick-and-mortar CD store today. Fabulous! Quote

Already a bit cheaper from some of the Amazon resellers, and my current usual best price resellers (importcds and moviemars) haven't even listed it yet. Import CD's have it listed for $30.99 -> was going to go that way but Amazon UK is even better @ 19.04 pounds (comes down to 15.80 after VAT removed) Quote
GregK Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 I wonder how good Disc 1 is. Guess I'll have to wait a few MORE days, since the set delivered to me today from Amazon is missing Disc 1! I miss real, live stores that I could walk into. Quote

felser Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 I miss real, live stores that I could walk into. Yep. I was at the dreaded King of Prussia Mall over the weekend with my wife. 400+ stores, and not a single CD store or book store among those. Quote
jeffcrom Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 I'm really enjoying this set, as I knew I would. I watched the DVD of the Berlin concert this morning; I've had a copy for years, but of course, the quality of this issue is much better. Apart from the sometimes astonishing interaction of the quintet, I've always thought that 1969-1970 represented Miles' absolute peak as a trumpet player - same for Wayne Shorter as a saxophonist. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 Haven't gotten my copy from across the Atlantic yet, looking forward to it. I agree Jeff, Miles' trumpeting during this time period just always interests and often excites me. Quote
