jeffcrom Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 Jeff, are they offering you the deal of $25 for six months, or something like that? If so, go for it! I find the Real Jazz station alone has been educational for me. That's the deal, and I was thinking about it. My interest waned a lot this afternoon when I turned on Real Jazz this afternoon to hear a version of "The In Crowd" with a drum machine. Quote
rostasi Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 The only time that I use the 6-disc unit in the Prius is when I want to listen to mixes that I do for a local restaurant - otherwise, it's the 160 GB iPod with stuff chosen by iTunes. For me, the ultimate will be when I can just stream anytime from my personal collection. Maybe with the next car. Quote

They have a channel called for "contemporary jazz" that it wouldn't surprise me to hear that kind of thing, but the Real Jazz channel is very mainstream. Take a look to see that you had it on the right channel. Of course, I'm not trying to deny your experience. Quote

marcello Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 Nice machine. Wanna race my Mazda 3? Anytime, Bubba! And yes, Real Jazz is excruciatingly mainstream/conservative. More than I imagined. Sirius does have a porn talk radio show called Spice Radio, so it's not like they think their audiences ears are fragile. Quote
Ed S Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 I bought a new car radio/CD player when I got Sirius in 2006. I have never used the CD player (except once when a friend insisted), as I always listen to Sirius. Back in January of 06 I debated whether or not to get a lifetime Sirius subscription. It was $500 at the time. I went back and forth and ended up getting it. It was a good investment. With a 38 month break even point, I'm now in my 3rd year of free service. Quote
medjuck Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 The Real Jazz statin sometimes surprises me by playing something like The Hot Fives, but I wish they'd identify the sidemen or even tell us what Albums the songs are from. I haves to admit I mainly listen to Little Steven's Underground Garage. Quote
BeBop Posted May 27, 2012 Report Posted May 27, 2012 Nice machine. Wanna race my Mazda 3? "3" owners unite! Really great value cars. Quote
Noj Posted May 27, 2012 Report Posted May 27, 2012 My '04 Honda Element was way ahead of the game and has a functioning AUX port. The car's like a set of headphones. Before getting this car years ago, I'd long since stopped bringing my store bought CD's in the car and instead burned CD-R compilations for travel use. Car stereo players and the constant inserting/removing from the player and the case quickly ruins CDs. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 **if you have CD players in cars: you have awesome digital sound, great for bumpin the nightfly while drving around at night--- whats safer--- THAT, or lisening to poor quality HQ on a digital player? guys im serious about this. its aboustely a factor. HQ sound is safer to utilize in a motor v. than poor quality sound. now before someone tries to be cheeky ill just say it myself: you might say, "bumpin the nightfly while driving around at night" is a lot less safe than any bad quality HQ. well thats just what i do, i have a spare 1st pressing of the nightfly (WB 1982) in the car at all times! ooo yea! does anyone want to guess the other CD i have in the car at all times? (hint: Steely-related) Quote
.:.impossible Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 My first experience with Sirius was in a rental. I was really disappointed by the sound quality. I immediately heard that degradation in cymbals that I remember hearing in the early days of mp3 codec. It is less obvious to me now, which means I have grown accustomed. Quote

randyhersom Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 Having to plan what to convert to mp3 files kills impulse listening. Having to carry ten thousand CDs in your car kills impulse listening. Quote
David Ayers Posted May 28, 2012 Report Posted May 28, 2012 Personally I like the CD autochanger in the trunk. You choose 6 (or however many) CDs. Then on mine at least there is one (physical) button for each CD - push button '1' and it plays CD one. Advantage? It is safe and easy. The kind where you feed CDs into the dash? Tedious. The kind where the interface is a series of touch screens? Tedious and dangerous. Controlling your iPod while driving? Um, not that safe either. People die and kill fiddling with those iPod/CD interfaces. Quote

People die and kill fiddling with those iPod/CD interfaces. It all depends on your setup really. In a minute, I can feed six discs into my dash and let 'em play for a week, for instance, or press one button on the iPod (before even starting the car) and let it go untouched - placed, unseen, in the armrest compartment. Both can run untouched for as long as desired. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted May 29, 2012 Report Posted May 29, 2012 no i dont know about that. if it helps promote HQ sound on mp3 im all for it kevin Quote

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 no, actually its Rosie Vela- Zazu Quote
robertoart Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 (edited) no, actually its Rosie Vela- Zazu Hells Bells, what a stunner she is. And she's Jeff Lynne's bird. I think he might be a bit old for her though. Dirty old man. I bet she met George Harrison. George and Jeff were great mates. Do you think George ever overdubbed his lachrymose slide guitar for her? I bet if he didn't he would have liked to. Edited May 30, 2012 by freelancer Quote

scamwb Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 Ever since I got my Ipod I never use the CD player and when I did use it I had MP3 discs but you never knew what song was coming next. With my Ipod I have playlists and can pick any song in seconds. Years ago I had a six CD cartridge and I wound up mixing up the CD's and cases and some getting scratched. Now my CD's are home and my Ipod does the rest. I guess there will be a market for CD players in cars for years to come because of the superior quality but that will become a niche like SACD. Quote
