I enjoy Wayne Shorter's 1964 Blue Note albums as a leader very much. It occurs to me that I'm a little vague about his work with Art Blakey in the 1963-64 time frame.

Can anyone recommend just an album or two of Blakey's when Wayne was in the group from that time period?

Mosaic was recorded in 1961, I think?

Correct.

Shorter was with Blakey from 1959 to 1964, when he joined Miles Davis' quintet.

There is also Buhaina's Delight, Caravan & Golden Boy

But I guess since you said just two, that'd be Indestructible & Free For All.

Never heard Kyoto but Ugetsu never really grabbed me.

Thanks guys! I'm pretty sure that I picked up Indestructible! from a bargain bin at Borders ten years ago, but have never opened it up. I'll put Free For All and Ugetsu on my Amazon wish list.

indestructible! has to be the most un-talked about blue note album in history. i never see it, on any format, or hear any chatter about it

I prefer it to Free For All myself.

I have it on both vinyl and CD.

I have a soft spot for "Calling Miss Khadija".

By all means, get FREE FOR ALL. It will blow you away! My personal second choice would be MOSAIC, but you won't be disappointed by any of the others mentioned here.

Congratulate me!

I was going through a box of unopened CDs this evening, and found both Indestructible! and Ugetsu. So I pulled them both out and put them aside. I'll open one of them within the next couple of days.
