Justin V Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 I found Hop, Skip and Jump by Johnny Hodges in the bargain bin. It has three sessions apparently recorded for Vogue in Paris in 1950 and a stray version of 'Sweet Georgia Brown'. There are 16 tracks from Paris. Are these all of the tracks that Hodges recorded in Paris that year? If not, what sessions/tracks are missing? The track listing is here. Thanks! Quote

Justin V Posted May 19, 2012 Author Report Posted May 19, 2012 Thanks, Chuck! It's missing the April 14th session, but at least the other sessions are complete. It's strange that the producers would include a random track recorded 2 years later but not the three tracks from April 14th. Quote
brownie Posted May 20, 2012 Report Posted May 20, 2012 All the sides Hodges recorded in Paris in 1950 are included in vol. 1 and 2 of the Complete 1941-1954 Johnny Hodges Small Group Sessions that were reissued by Blue Moon. Vol. 1 also includes 'Saint-Germain des Prés Blues' that was recorded on April 14, 1950 but came out under Harold Baker's name! Volume 1 Volume 2 Quote

Swinging Swede Posted December 23, 2012 Report Posted December 23, 2012 All these tracks also appeared in Chronological Classics' Hodges series. The Swing session (including the Baker track) was on 1945-1950, whereas the Vogue sessions were on 1950-1951. Quote
