Larry Kart Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Same performance, better sound, no video though: Quote

Should have said that I meant his time before the doubled-up section that begins at about the .43 mark -- after that it does get hectic, although probably on purpose, in the name of musical fun as it was then conceived. If you've got problems with how George is playing before that, I don't hear any. In particular, the way he leans into/sort of slurs and glides through the title phrase seems marvelous to me. Quote
flat5 Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 He speeds up in the first section too. I agree, he seems to want to get through the encore piece as fast as possible :-) Quote
Larry Kart Posted May 11, 2012 Author Report Posted May 11, 2012 I defer to the experts, but I still dig it -- and on rhythmic/phrasing grounds. Quote
Pete C Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 It's his song. He can do whatever he wants. Quote
JSngry Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 I find his time to be somewhat less than compelling. His left hand, though, is playing some nice harmonic things. This is the song that should never have been written. But since it was, and since it became the archetype that it did, it serves to reveal Satan's Great Plan For America - round and round in the same place, ever over and over, survival through smiling suffocation. Life as a freaking arcade show, put in a penny and watch the toys dance in place until the money runs out, after which, they got some more toys, some more pennies, and some more suckers. Such a cheap way to choose life. Fortunately, god fought back, at first with people who saw through the ruse and got it to open its legs, then people who pointed the way out (not that it wasn't good once the legs had been opened, it's just wasn't a good natural fit, and you know how important a good natural fit is when the legs are open), and finally, people who busted out. altogether That many choose to not escape the grip of the Devil Woman is not my concern, I just thank god that the rupture was made and remains open for navigation. Some people enjoy the preprogrammed mechanical fuck. Their desires are continue to be met. They say the number of the beast is 666. In reality, it's 1625. Quote
Pete C Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 The tune that should have been written, of course, is "I Have Rhythm." Quote
JSngry Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 The real song that should have been written is "I Want A Different Rhythm Than The One I Got, So Where Can I Go To Get It?". And the answer to "who could ask for anything more?" would be "ME!"But in all fairness, who COULD ask for anything more? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2INs9ssvfE Quote
