Pete C Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 I don't understand the point of this compilation. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 To make money from people who buy collectible lps. Quote
colinmce Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 I would pay $10 for something like this, but certainly no more. Quote
marcello Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 Pete, my daughter's boyfriend bought this one yesterday and I thought the same thing. It's a odd grouping os songs, to be sure. Quote
WD45 Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 I looked at it in the store. Certainly mixed messages around the tracks' status as "unreleased." As in "unreleased until it was released several years ago in a boxed set." I'd have rather seen a something like a bootleg from the 70s released instead... Quote
B. Clugston Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 I don't understand the point of this compilation. Welcome to Record Store Day, where these issues are par for the course. On the bright side, it's nice to see "Early Minor" finally on vinyl and I do prefer this version of "Directions" over the one issued on CD. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 This version of "Directions" is on disc 2 of "It's About that Time". Way to mislead casual fans/buyers Because the only way this compilation is interesting to us is if some people prefer and absolutely have to have the tracks on vinyl, but I think the Mosaic LP sets had all this material anyway sans the "Fillmore East March 7, 1970" set. That is misleading. I mistakenly assumed it was the March 6 version. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 I checked the disc on my shelf, it times in at 10:14 on disc 2. Quote
Pete C Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 The March Fillmores are the dates with Shorter, yes? If so, the sound wasn't so good, so who cares what media it's on? Quote

Although the March 6th show, IIRC has slightly better sound. The March 7th stuff on Columbia has so much distortion on the master and Jack is not well recorded, but that music is so great. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 How different is the mix of "Early Minor"?? - from the version on the IASW box. Quote
