Peter Friedman Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Another important jazz man is gone. R.I.P. Quote
mikeweil Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Listened to the three sessions with Mingus earlier this evening - Teddy Charles was the greatest ballad vibist of all - few notes, sparingly spread with perfect timing, almost no vibrato - no cover, no hiding place, just great music. Did you know he had a duo with Mingus in the latter's California days? Must have been something! Quote
paul secor Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 He was involved with some interesting - in the best sense of that word - music. Thanks, Mr. Charles. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Old folks die. Some do much more than others, some do great stuff and never get recognized, some do lesser stuff and get recognized. We are all in a queue somewhere. Be appreciative of what you received and be ready to take your turn. Mr. Charles was in the middle of the pack, which means he's a hero to me. Quote
.:.impossible Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 I love his music. I also love the sentiment in your message there Chuck. Quote
