Chuck Nessa Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 HOLY CRAP! It took this long to find the theft???????? Quote

GA Russell Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 How does an RV cost $2.1 million? Quote
Quincy Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 How does an RV cost $2.1 million? Just think of it as a vessel to fill with things that cost money. I don't know if this is the exact model though it is an example of 2009 Liberty. As you can see it at least heads into 6 figures. Quote
GA Russell Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 Thanks, Quincy! But even those expensive things in a house shouldn't cost $2 million. Those $2 million homes cost that much because of the location - the land, right? I guess the dealer jacks up the price when he's told that price is no object. Quote

From what I understand (our area used to have a high end RV manufacturer) that these sort of RVs are often customized for NASCAR drivers and a few rock groups too. With that sort of customer base (along with embezzling city officials!) it is easy to jack up the costs. The relatively tight space to wire & plumb such an RV does increase the labor time some, though in itself not to put it over 2 million. Quote
Eric Posted April 19, 2012 Report Posted April 19, 2012 (edited) $30 million in a town of 15,000?! What Chuck said. Turns out she was one of the top horse breeders in the world, all funded by the fraud. Apparently she took twelve weeks of unpaid vacation in 2011 (in addition to four paid weeks). So she took off 16 weeks in 2011 and at some point during her absence, her replacement detected the fraud. Most people who commit this type of fraud rarely take time off, for obvious reasons. How in the world did she think she could skate by for sixteen weeks??? Disgusting, yet rather fascinating. Edited April 19, 2012 by Eric Quote

Was watching the local (i.e. Chicago) news and they interviewed a previous candidate for council (or maybe even mayor) who had noticed some irregularities (even in the publicly available documents) and tried to make this a campaign issue. Who knows if he really would have uncovered the problem had he been elected. But I bet the voters are sure feeling stupid after voting in one rubberstamp council after another. (Not that this is anything new in Chicagoland... ) Quote
