It's strangely familar yet disturbingly different - like walking into a Japanese "Mac-a-Doh-Naldo's" for a "ham-boo-gah" and "small fry potato". Ask for a hamburger and french fries and you'll just get a polite smile. Although according to the menu, smiles only cost 0 yen. Quote

JSngry Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 They got a cat named "Philly" who looks like he has really good taste. Check out his own site: http://mypaper.pchome.com.tw/news/bluenote27/ Quote
David Ayers Posted January 21, 2004 Author Report Posted January 21, 2004 These guys are in Taiwan (I think). To really get into this site you need the wonders of babelfish, though you may find it makes even less sense... Quote
Claude Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 I've posted a link to this thread in their Jazz DVD thread Quote

They don't seem to know. OK, I just gotta ask--does this ongoing joke originate from when I posted on BNBB about Nora being Ravi's daughter? I have a friend who once played congas for her, and I remember bringing it up since my friend got the gig because his parents are friends with Ravi... Quote

Brad Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Well, it's too bad we can't read their stuff. There's a thread involving Buddy DeFranco that's 6 pages long. There has to be some good shit in there. I think you need a special browser for japanese/chinese characters. Quote
Philly Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 (edited) Hello, Folks, It's Philly from Taiwan and the site owner of Philly Jazz Bar (http://mypaper.pchome.com.tw/news/bluenote27/). I am glad to join this forum and say hello to all of you. Yep! We just got Buddy Defranco's 5 lp-sleeved CDs w/Sonny Clark and the music is terrific! Edited January 21, 2004 by Philly Quote
JSngry Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Welcome, Philly! Stick around and join in the fun. Is your site a retail site or a fan site? Eitehr way, like I noted earlier, your taste in jazz seems quite good! Quote

Eitehr way, like I noted earlier, your taste in jazz seems quite good! Hi, JSngry, "Philly Jazz Bar" is a fan site actually. I usually write (comment) something after listening to an album. I am curious that how do you guys know MP Jazz Forum based in Taiwan? Anyway, glad to join this site and know you. Quote
JSngry Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Man, I wish I could read your site. Anybody who digs Bill Barron's HIGHER GROUND is ok by me! As for how we know about MP Jazz Forum, you'd have to ask David Ayers, who posted the link that started this thread. But if you know any posters over there who are interested, let them know about this site as well, please. The more the merrier! Quote
Philly Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 The picture drawed by Bill Barron is shown on the cover of "HIGH GROUND". Quote
David Ayers Posted January 21, 2004 Author Report Posted January 21, 2004 Hi Philly and welcome! I found your site completely by accident. I was looking for any site that could tell me the next 100 Japanese RVG titles after TOCJ 9600. (These are the ones we call JRVGs). So I typed "TOCJ 9600" into Google and found your site. I couldn't really read it, but I could see that you were talking about all the kinds of things we talk about here. I thought it was quite funny, finding another version of us on the other side of the world. So I am very glad you have called to say hello - maybe you will decide to stick around. Quote
Philly Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 Yep, what we've discussed on MP Jazz Forum includes everything abount Jazz, such as new release, re-issue, cover art, jazz-related OST, and comments....etc. Therefore, the site and MP Jazz Forum are doing the similiar things except the language. I will try to ask more and then learn more from you guys. Thanks! Quote
